Drug Detox

Only those who have taken addictive drugs for any length of time and tried to stop will understand how wretched the withdrawals can be, and only those that have been through the withdrawals and made it out to the other side will understand that the fight for freedom may not yet be over.

There is a new fight on their hands, “how to stay clean and not relapse”?

A major cause of relapse can be due to physical cravings for drugs or alcohol.

Narconon has worked with hundreds of thousands of addicts worldwide, at the heart of the Narconon program is the world renown New Life Sauna Detox™.

The purpose of  this drug detox is to rid the body of accumulated toxins that may have built up over time. It can be due to excessive use of drugs and/or other detrimental toxins being stored in the body. Narconon’s New Life Sauna Detox aims to give a recovering addict the highest possible chance to remaining clean for good.

The first step prior to starting a drug detox is a drug withdrawal. The definition of withdrawal is "Discontinuation of the use of an addictive substance, and the physiological and mental readjustment that accompanies such discontinuation."

Once a medium - long term substance mis-user has discontinued using drugs, physical and behavioural withdrawal symptoms are likely to follow. The nature, length of time and severity of the withdrawal symptoms can vary greatly depending on what drugs, how much, and how often they where taken and also how they where administered.

These days there are few people who use one drug exclusively. It is very common to see individuals in drug detox that used alcohol and cocaine, crack and speed or alcohol and prescription medications for example.

With the above in mind, it is easy to see why any drug rehabilitation programme may immediately become more successful if a comprehensive drug detox is incorporated into that programme. As a rule, a complete drug detox should be completed straight after a person has completed the withdrawal part of a rehab program.

It is thought that drug residuals may remain in one’s body and be the cause of cravings that are accused of haunting former addicts for years after drug use has ceased.

Drug Detoxification helps  to eliminate or diminish the craving for drugs allowing the addict to eventually move on with their lives, leaving the past to the past.

A Drug detox is performed in many different ways with some methods thought to be more effective and comprehensive than others, while some drug detox facilities simply provide medication to avoid physical withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.

In every instance  a person should only attempt to do a drug detox with qualified detox staff on hand and should never attempt to do such a program without first consulting a medical doctor.

“This part of the program blew me away. I have done several rehabs in the past and not once did I stay clean longer than 6 months after completing them. Now I know why, I was never really clean in the first place”
